Even the new properties, the Double Eagle Hotel and the Wildwood Casino were built to retain the 1890s look. The parking garage at the Wildwood resembles an ore crushing mill. Pretty clever!
Craps varies wildly from place to place in town. I liked the vibe at the Brass Ass Casino; only 3/4/5 odds but a very competent crew featuring the tallest stickman I’ve ever seen(at least 6ft10’ with a voice like a foghorn). Brick interior walls, raw wood floors, good lighting, quick cocktail service and actual outside windows, you can see the snow falling on Bennet Ave!
One dollar minimums means they keep 50&25 cent chips on hand for the smaller bettors. Downtown odds on the field.
The crew at Womack’s Gambling Hall was awful, stay away.
The Wildwood is a new building with 2 tables and decent dealers. 10x odds, downtown odds in the field, 5$ minimum. Enclosed parking means you don’t freeze before getting to the tables. Two decent restaurants at the Wildwood, but nobody goes to Cripple Creek for a meal.
With 100$ limits on any one bet, there’s plenty of leeway for crapsshooters, so if the Jones gets too bad it’s an easy trip into the hills. Other offerings are slots, VP, Poker and roulette.
The other mountain towns, Blackhawk and Central City, are an hour from Denver on I-70.
